Afternoon Tea

Yummy Scones
Afternoon tea is one of those treats that I make an effort to enjoy at regular intervals, whenever possible. I’m not sure what I like most about it; is it the devon cream and warm scones? the sandwiches made of crust-less white bread? or perhaps it is the very idea of being able to take time and really savour a cup of tea, and enjoy the company of whoever you are with. It is also a far better way to enjoy one of my favourite beverages, as opposed to the everyday ritual of sipping it at my desk, while at work.

Yesterday, after a morning of pedicures, my mum and sister and I had afternoon tea at the Windsor Arms Hotel in Toronto. Tea at the hotel is an institution. Their Tea Room is exactly as one should be: big comfy arm chairs, pretty brocade curtains, a big old fireplace and little tables set with china cups and saucers and mini jars of jam and devon cream.

We each had a “full tea”, which consisted of 3 types of sandwiches – asparagus, smoked salmon, and chicken, miniature goat cheese tarts with caramelised onions, a selection of scones, plain and with currants, petit fours, and fresh strawberries and cream. I opted for a darjeeling tea, my mum had the “Chai Arms”, and my sister had the “Russian Caravan“, which was the most intriguing because it was as fragrant as a good cigar might be. If you are in the area and need to celebrate anything or just enjoy an afternoon treat, I highly recommend an afternoon tea here.
